Air hockey is a popular game which is played on a table known as air hockey table between two players (officially allowed, but unofficially 4 table players can also be used) who have to put the pucks (discs) into the opposition goals using sticks known as hockey mallets. The game is very simple - the player who scores the highest number of goals after a pre-specified time is declared the winner. It does not require much of equipment apart from the table, mallets and puck. Understandably, the air hockey table is the most costly part of the setup while the others are comparatively cheaper but their importance nevertheless the same since a game cannot be played without them.
Air Hockey Puck: Components and Material
Air hockey pucks are made up of resins. These are generally Lexan polycarbonate resins which impart good properties to the puck. The size in which the puck is available is varied and it generally depends upon the size of the table on which air hockey is being played. So, if the table is a small one of around 3 feet, smaller pucks will be suitable while for tables around 8 feet in size, bigger pucks should be used. There is not much that one has to think about while going for a purchase of the puck since there is not much scope for variation. There are pucks which vary in their size, colour and glowing properties while other properties like material used are generally standardised though there might be some amount of variation in the material used which could affect the flow or movement of puck on the table but these are not huge. The colours in which the air hockey pucks are available are red, blue, bright lime green, black, fluorescent yellow and white and the colour can be chosen on the basis of the colour of the table and personal preference.
Replacement Air Hockey Pucks
Air hockey pucks are generally available in sets so that if in case a puck is lost, a replacement is there. The cost per puck varies from company to company but generally can be bought for anywhere between 50 cents to 12 dollars depending on quality. Many companies and online stores give discounts and it is suggested to purchase from them in order to make a saving.
